G’day All - It’s been a while - apologies or the delay in producing this cybertracker, tbh tracking the Israel-Hamas cyber situation has taken additional bandwidth that I would normally dedicate to this cybertracker.
A quick fact: I have tracked over 380 hacktivist groups related to the Russia-Ukraine war since 24 February 2022.
I would also like to remind you all that the Cybertracker I produce for the Russia-Ukraine war is based on the Intent of the cyber threat actors, not capability.
I also want to say a big thankyou to those who read the substack, support my X and those who message with thanks or who request to use this product in their work. I appreciate your ongoing interest and support of this work.
Some notes from the 26th cybertracker:
Overall the hacktivist landscape remains active. New groups continue to replace old groups and largely, DDoS remains the dominate attack method for both pro-Russian and pro-Ukraine groups.
30 new pro-Russian groups added and 7 pro-Ukraine groups added. I also removed 81 inactive groups. Either, they have shutdown their comms or, they have been inactive since October 2023 (publicly).
Pro-Russian groups continue to outnumber pro-Ukraine (that does not include impact of attacks - purely group numbers)
Hacktivist groups continue to seek improved capabilities to match their high intent.
Telegram continues to be the dominate form of comms for pro-Russian groups.
Cyber Army Russia Reborn has created a collective with notable group such as Noname057(16).
Killnet and Killmilk have been removed from the cybertracker and replaced with Killnet2.0 and JustEvil. JustEvil is the group and name that KillMilk is now using.
Anonymous Sudan continues to have high-profile attack success, largely due to its likely use of the Skynet botnet.
Noname057(16) and the DDoSia project remain the most active pro-Russian hacktivist group.
I have included the original version of the cybertracker below.
