Geopolitical flashpoints trigger hacktivist activity

Iran-Israel tensions that have now shifted into a war of missile strikes was always going to result in increased hacktivist activity. As of 22 June 2025, there are 119 hacktivist groups who have conducted cyber attacks or have made declarations to act in support of or against Iran and Israel.

Unlike other cybertrackers, this version has three clusters:

• pro-Israel

• pro-Iran

• Anti-Iran

Unlike the pro-Palestine movement which focused on Israel, Iran is more polarizing with some pro-Palestine hacktivist groups attacking Iran while many others support it.

There are several pro-Indian and pro-Russian hacktivists who have joined the conflict and they will likely continue to be involved for some time.

After the United States launched strikes on Iran several hacktivist groups have now pivoted to target the United States.
